Payson, UT (Mar.5, 2018) – Round nine of the 2018 Monster Energy Supercross Series, an FIM World Championship, made its debut inside the new Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, GA, with the second of the series-within-a-series Triple Crown formats this Saturday night.
Blake Baggett started his day off solidly as he found the fast line around the Atlanta track to post the 4th fastest time of the day. In the first main event, Blake launched out of the gate on the gas, leading the field into turn one. He then became entrenched in a battle for position inside the top three, pushing hard for 2nd place. As the laps ran out, he held on to take the 3rd spot at the checkered flag. In main event two, Blake once again used the exceptional traction from his Dunlop tires to lead the field to turn one. He rode smart on the rutted-up track to finish the second race in 4th place. The third and final main event Blake once again lead the field to the first turn. He would start to push for the lead again until an issue caused him to crash, and force him to retire from the final main event. Blake with his solid rides in moto 1, still allowed for a 7th overall and he still holds down 3rd overall in points.
Contrary to some industry rumors, Blake did sprain his wrist but nothing worse. He already logged in a full day of riding/testing with the team yesterday (Tuesday) at his farm in FL – and is full in ready to race this upcoming weekends Daytona Supercross.
Benny Bloss made his way to the night show with a solid ride in the LCQ, finishing 2nd. In the first main event, Benny had his work cut out for him as he rounded the first turn buried deep in the pack. He moved forward, finishing just outside the top ten in 11th. After a 13th in main event two, Benny came back strong in the third main event, running inside the top ten early on. He hit his marks every lap, pushing forward and riding strong to finish 8th and 11th overall on the night.
Anthony Rodriguez’s night started off great in the first main event. He rode solidly on the technical track to work his way to a 10th place finish. After a 13th place ride in main event two, Anthony launched out of the gate in the third and final main event at the front of the field. He looked strong early in the race, showing the speed he is known for and fighting for the top spot before going down. He remounted and finished 21st, resulting in 16th overall on the night.
