Payson, UT (Feb.5, 2018) – The scene was different as round five of the 2018 Monster Energy Supercross, an FIM World Championship Series, headed to the Northen California city of Oakland and the Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum for the season’s first day race this past Saturday. After fans were treated to the SoCal SuperTrucks show truck in the team pit area, Blake Baggett rode solid on the treacherous track to his first podium finish of the season.
Blake’s evening started off solid as he launched off the gate in his heat race and rounded the first turn inside the top five. He held tough, battling for position and finishing 6th to transfer to the main event. Blake found the power at the start of the main event, launching off the gate and rounding the first turn in 2nd place. He slid back a few spots early in the race, but by the midway point, he battled his way into 3rd place and had set his sights on 2nd. Never letting up, his fast whoop speed allowed him to close in on 2nd place. He continued to charge, finishing 3rd and gaining his first podium of the season. This moves Blake up to 7th place in the championship point standings, just 9 points out of 4th place.
“Tonight was a good night,” said Baggett. “Track was tough and struggled a bit in practice with the deep ruts and the rhythm lanes. We made a few adjustments to my WP Factory Services suspension before the night show that helped me feel comfortable with the conditions. My starts were awesome all night, which helped with track position. I rode consistent and hit my marks every lap. I’m excited to get a podium, and am looking forward to next weekend in San Diego ready to battle for the win.”
Benny Bloss came into Oakland ready. A solid start in his heat race had Benny starting from inside the top ten. He didn’t let off the gas as he charged his way from deep inside the top ten to finish 6th, transferring to the main event. Benny launched out of the gate in the main event and worked his way to 12th before going down hard. After a trip to the mechanic’s area to fix his bike, he returned to the track to finish the night in 20th.
“It was an up-and-down night,” said Bloss. “It was one of the toughest supercross tracks I have ridden, and I am happy to come out of here healthy. Unfortunately, I had a little issue in the main event that hindered my performance. We leave here on a positive note and ready for next weekend in San Diego.”
Dakota Alix was back in action in Oakland in the 250SX class after missing last weekend’s race. He quickly shot out of the gate in 250SX heat one to round the first turn inside the top five. Dakota hit his lines consistently to finish 6th and transfer straight to the main. Feeling confident, another good start in the main event placed Dakota inside the top ten and ready to push forward. Unfortunately, he tangled with another rider while battling for position sending him over a berm. He remounted and finished the night in 20th place.
